Barefoot

Hi there,

The first ever project we got in the first year, was to conduct a detailed analysis of a space we selected. We had three choices, which were the Casa Hotel, Barefoot and The British High Commission. We were separated into groups and our group choose the Barefoot as our location.

Barefoot, situated in Colombo is most popular for its hand loomed textiles. The designer Barbara Sansoni began Barefoot over 40 years ago. She was first invited to design cloth for women who were learning to weave. What is special about these textiles is the eye catching and bright colors they have.

The textiles are further further more made into bedspreads, cushions, serviettes and other household items, which are all available in the shop for sale.

Apart from those,a huge collection of simple clothing, hand made jewellery, notebooks, lampshades, bags and toys are also there.

A book store consisting of many valuable and rare books and a vast collection of post cards, is just behind the textiles shop.

Right after the book shop is the ware house, in which you can find hand made candle stands, stools and boxes.

The Barefoot cafe is situated i the very end of the location, right in front of the gallery. The cafe is always crowded with people of high society families who come very often to enjoy some time from their busy schedules.
