Sea shells have been used by people for many different purposes. In history, sea shells have been used as a medium of exchange in various places including Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean islands. They have also been used as tools because of their strength and various shapes.
Sea shells have played a part in religion and spirituality, sometimes even as ritual objects. They have also been used as musical instruments and as jewellery. Outdoor sculptures have also been made depicting sea shells. Some of the most famous sculptures are given below.
